The Contraventions Act is now in force in BC!

What does this mean to you?

Spectrum Management Officers can now, under the Federal Contraventions Act of 2005, issue tickets for violations of the Radio communication Act and Radio Regulations. Fines are $288 for an individual and $575 for a company.

The most common offences are:

• Installing or operating an unlicensed radio.

• Operating on an unauthorized frequency.

• Operating in an unauthorized area.

Industry Canada license fees:

Commercial portable and mobile licenses are $41/year pro rated from April. New licenses are subject to a $12 issuance fee. The number of programmed channels has no effect to the cost, but each frequency programmed must be listed on the license.

Base stations in the lower mainland are $232/year plus a $70 issuance fee for every channel programmed. Rural licenses are $106 per year and $32 issuance fee. You will likely find the application forms confusing as they ask for a lot of technical information, so just ask for help.
